It doesn't even look good or amazing and it certainly doesn't add to the immersion. To me the camera movement makes it weird and "unnatural" and the whole tunnel thing just feels awkward. I would really like a way to disable it.
What would also work, to me at least, is if you don't actually get the ship's perspective but instead the camera stays focussed on the gate and you see your ship zoom off. No weird camera rotation, zooming in or out. Just the gate's perspective, see your ship whiz off, switch to the new gate and see your ship arrive, and while that's all going on you have control over the camera. Does this in any way actually strike you as factual? Really? It makes you wonder what the cafeteria was serving for lunch that day, because the rest of the world doesn't seem to have that issue.
I highly doubt that 50% is on par but I can attest to the whole 3D shooter motion sickness phenomena. I'm fine when playing MMO's or "normal" games but when I try a shooter on our Xbox it can make me feel queasy. Not all do it but some most definitely have that effect. For the record:
I'm still not at all happy with the camera movement I still don't find the whole tunnel thing to be visually appealing I still don't like the "quick zoom into position" at the destination
So no, I haven't adapted at all and still would like a switch to turn it off. The adventures of a newbie: http://kyraquinn.wordpress.com/ |

Ranger 1 wrote:If people are affected by this animation and it is adjusted to no longer cause them distress, problem solved. At that point there is no need to demand that CCP remove it or add an on/off switch (which they are reluctant to do or unable to do in an efficient manner).
There are a number of elements that can be easily adjusted within the current animation (camera swing, timing, opacity), and that should be explored first.
For me it's mostly the camera rotation at the beginning and sometimes, if I'm tired, the "zoom in" when arriving in the new system. The tunnel effect is not an actual issue as such but I just don't find it really interesting or good looking. And while I'd be happy with an outcome that took several iterations to be good looking at not causing problems, right now I'd like an off switch so I'm not affected by it. Just replying in this thread again to voice my dissent. I STILL don't like it, it STILL causes nausea at times and it's STILL ugly. Luckily for me I'm an explorer so I will be in system map mode a lot but it's silly that I'm forced to use the map to avoid this whole jumping procedure.
I would really like to know what kind of discussion went on at CCP in this regard. What their motivations were for putting it in in the first place, leaving it in regardless of the obvious issues and staying all quiet on this subject since then.
